How to turn a photo or a few words into a running workout

In Fartlek you can send Pete, the app's AI coach, a photo of a workout or a few words about the run you want, and he turns it into a structured run, with warm-up, reps, recoveries and cool-down, that you can start right away with voice and haptic cues.

From a few words

  1. Open Fartlek and, on the Home screen, tell Pete what you feel like running. For example: "30 minutes, something fun with short surges" or "6 × 800 m with 2 minutes easy".
  2. Pete builds the run, or asks one quick question if he really needs to. He fits it to the time you have and gives every step an effort target.
  3. Want it different? Reply in your own words: "make it 20 minutes" or "longer recoveries".
  4. Start it, and the app guides every step with voice, color and haptic cues.

From a photo or a screenshot

Tap the photo button next to the message box and pick an image: a whiteboard at the track, a page from a training book, a screenshot from social media or a message from your coach. Pete reads the workout, keeps its structure and adds what's missing, like a warm-up and a cool-down.

Or a run from the library

If one of the app's 25 workouts already fits what you asked for, Pete can suggest it instead of building a new one. You can also browse the library yourself.

Tips for better results

  • Say how much time you have, or the distance.
  • If you know the reps and recoveries, include them: "8 × 400 m, 90 seconds easy".
  • Say what it's for: speed, hills, or a race in a few weeks.
  • For photos, crop to the workout, one session per image.

What it costs

Asking Pete is free to try. Running the workouts he builds, and changing them more than once, is part of Fartlek Premium, which also unlocks the whole library and training plans that adapt: US$4.99 a month or US$29.99 a year in the US, with a 3-day free trial on the yearly plan. The first time, the app asks your permission before anything is sent to the AI coach.
